2013 Fishing Round Up… What a Great Year

by Martyn Russ

What a start to the season with a visit down to Cornwall's White Acres fisherywhite acres kicking off one of the best fishing seasons i have had so far. Ok we didn’t catch the monster we were after but talk about quantity and quality. Cornwall started the ball rolling with a 7 day fishing session with an average of 20 to 30 fish per day. Now for match fishermen it doesn’t sound a lot but as i wasn’t match fishing but actually Carp and specimen fishing i was very pleased with the results we had. During the 7 days visit to the south we managed to catch not only Carp but some quality Tench and Bream as well as the usual Roach, Rudd and Perch.

As we began our journey and started visiting the south side of Wales we managed to Cefn Mably2visit a few of the best Carp and Coarse fisheries in the area. Cefn Mably, Peterstone Lakes, Lamby Lake and Hazel courts are just a few of the venues we planned to take on and what a variety of venues these were. Each lake was different and presented us with different challenges that all the members were able to take on and with great results. Trish and John both managed personal best’s as well as me getting my biggest Perch so far.

Over the summer months we were able to try our hand not only at Carp and specimen fishing but also did a lot of match and feeder fishing just for the fun. johnIMG00632-20130826-1159 took to the feeder like duck to water and was constantly catching fish no matter what venue he attended. Myself i preferred a more relaxed approach and still managed to catch loads of fish but mainly Carp.  Also 2013 started our field testing for the company Total Outdoors and we have the opportunity to try out many new Carp Force Products and G-Core luggage with great results and reviews.

One of the biggest talked about products of 2013, that we found everyone talking626656970_o about, was the Fluorocarbon Fishing line from Carp Force. A Great line that is half the thickness of standard line and just as strong if not stronger. I had the honour of testing this line to the max by using it through the whole year on most of the fishing sessions we went on and i can honestly say it lives up to its claims. The bites were plenty and the fish fought hard but the line didn’t give one bit. I think that this line will be around for quite some time to come and i certainly will be using it again next year. I was also the winner of a big selection of lures and plugs, witch are also available from Total Outdoors, and will be trying them out this winter. As we draw towards the end of another year we see the start of Predator fishing and trying to catch a big Pike, Perch or Zander.

When i was younger, living in St. Neots just on the side of the river Ouse in Cambridgeshire, i saw some of the best Jack Pike and Pike fishing in the UK. You could say i was spoilt. Now after 10 years of having a break i get to have another go and am really looking forwards to this winter and some of the Pike and Perch i will be catching and the new plugs and lures i get to try out. I am also looking forwards to doing some dedicated Carp fishing through the Winter and into the new year as we are going after the big ones next year and see if i can get a new personal best. I would like to thank all the other members of Fishing Adventures Wales for making 2013 a brilliant year for fishing and now i am looking forwards to seeing what 2014 brings and another great fishing year.
