Catching the Early Spring Sun

by Martyn Russ

Although the Rivers are now closed to fishermen and some lakes are resting there are still plenty of places to fish around South Wales and some of the Club FAW members were out and about enjoying the early spring sun. The weather seemed to suddenly sky rocket and temperatures were similar to those of an early summer so a couple of the members decided to pay a visit to some of the local venues around the Cardiff & Newport area.
New member Lee Palmer and a couple of his mates decided to pay Cefn Mably a visit and make the most of the early season sun. They had decided on fishing some of the coarse lakes rather than the main carp and specimen lakes and thoroughly enjoyed their visit as they were rewarded with some lovely trophies. Lee managed to catch himself a couple of nice small Carp during his visit. Cefn Mably is a well stocked venue that has 2 main Carp & Specimen lakes and 4 or 5 coarse lakes offering something for every angler.
Trish & Brian Lloyd also decided to make the most of the early season sun and paid a visit to their favourite venue just on the outskirts of Newport, Peterstone Fishing Lakes. Peterstone is also the home to the Birch Syndicate, a large specimen lake that is for members only but also has 2 good size match lakes that are joined together to offer day ticket fishing. Trish and Brian love this venue and it wasn't long before they were catching. They managed to pull out some lovely Barbel and Carp as well as a few large Bream and reported they had a brilliant days fishing even though the water wasn't fishing well that day they were still catching.
It wasn't long before Trish wanted to go back and pay Peterstone another visit this time accompanied By Robert Russ. The sun was again high in the sky and the temperatures were climbing but still the lakes didnt seem to be fishing that well. Trish still managed to pull out some Bream but Robert seemed to have the tactic spot on and within 5 minuets of wetting his line he was rewarded with a lovely Tench followed by a nice little carp of 3 to 4 lb in weight. Well done guys its good to see you all getting out and about and making an early start in the season.
