TFGear Scout 2 Man Bivvy Product Review

by Martyn Russ

I have had the pleasure of using the TFGear Scout 2 man bivvy with winter wrap for 2 seasons now and I have to admit I am very impressed despite a few small issues. The first thing I noticed about the scout bivvy was the size when it was put up. Its very spacious with plenty of room for 2 large bed chairs and all the tackle and bags needed when out on  a 24 hr session.

The front and rear vents give you the option of opening up the bivvy and giving it full ventilation on those hot days , I did notice in the middle of summer even with the vents open it can get very hot inside the bivvi. At one point I folded back both sides of the front of the bivvy to create a full open brolly style shelter and that was perfect for that kind of heat. Having the option to do that with this bivvy was a god send when it was so hot.
The great thing with the design of the scout 2 man is when you actually remove all the front pegs of the bivvy it doesn't loose integratory and strength and remains rock solid unlike most other bivvies when the front pegs are removed they can become unstable and flap around in the wind.

One low point came when I decided to put the wrap on to keep the condensation down in the evening. Yes it was great and stopped all the condensation from forming inside the skin of the bivvy and it also kept it lovely and warm during cold and frosty mornings.
The down side was  there are no rod retaining straps at the front of the wrap like on the bivvy itself. This meant you had to prop your rods up against the front of the bivvy and hope they don't slide down the side when putting on new rigs. using the bivvy with out the wrap was a pleasure and the quality of the bivvy is very high with strong seams and strong poles which will ensure this bivvi will last you.

In my opinion the only way they could improve on this design would be to put the retaining straps on the wrap as well and then it would be one of the best on the market. As it is its still one I would recommend to any serious angler as this is one bivvi that wont let them down.
